What should I do to enhance my guitar playing?

I've been playing guitar for I think about two years now. In my opinion, I think I'm and ok player. I definitely have all the basics down, but I definitely feel like I'm not a great guitar player yet. And I was wondering if anyone has any advice about how I can practice at my level to enhance my guitar playing and get better. Both my guitar teacher and my dad (who plays b in a band) heavily emphasize that I should get in a band and that playing with other people really helps, but right now that's not really an option. So how can I practice on my own and get better? Should I just try to learn new songs from ear? Or are there websites that have good ideas? Thank ya for your help.
