Does A memory card Enhance picture quality?

Hello! I've recently bought a Nikon Coolpix S3100 and didn't realize it doesn't come with a memory card. The camera itself can hold up to 12 pictures, but they are somewhat bad quality. I was reading many reviews and people were saying how great and detailed the pictures are! I was wondering if I buy a memory card, will the picture quality enhance? Like, will it have more space to hold detail. I hope that made sense. Sorry, i'm not that "techy" so I don't know what i'm doing. Thanks a bunch!
